Do This Now to Engage Your People

Let's face it, we're coming out of a particularly challenging year as a CEO trying to engage your people. We've had so much stress around political and class divisions. Social media is feeding the frenzy.

Group meeting with diverse people sharing papers and laptops in a bright room. Smiling and engaged, wearing varied casual outfits.

We're heading into a new year which is likely to be just as challenging. Your people are feeling exhausted and distracted - not a good combo when your job as a leader is to ensure optimal organization-wide performance.

And yet, there is a way that CEOs can hardwire top-tier performance with a systematic approach to engaging everyone in the organization around mutual respect and trust.

Like any effective system, there are a number of components that integrate to achieve a great outcome. It's a lot to take on all at once, so let's start with one first step - listening.

There is a systematic approach to listening that achieves significant results quickly and provides lasting improvement as it becomes part of your standard work routine.

Ask people this one question - "What do you think I need to know, in order to help you do your job better?"

Then listen to their answers. Take notes. Act on one recommendation quickly. Let everyone know about it.

To do this most effectively, you can set up the process in a way in which everyone feels safe enough to speak up without fear of humiliation or retaliation. In fact, if you don't create that atmosphere of psychological safety, some people will hold back and you will miss important information.

If you'd like to learn more, you can schedule a call. I'd love to explain the process.
