Every leader's job has gotten more challenging in the past month, requiring you to take a new approach to lead through chaos.

We are seeing chaos in our national politics which is impacting every organization as uncertainty abounds:
National programs that leaders have counted on to provide stability are experiencing layoffs and budget cuts,
Federal agencies have new leaders, many of whom have little direct experience with the programs they administer, let alone managing large organizations,
Decisions are made and edicts handed down, only to have them reversed in a few days as the implications become clear, and
Government workers, who many leaders have developed effective working relationships with, have been summarily fired and then some are re-hired.
Senior healthcare leaders' jobs were challenging enough before all this. While the chaos of the pandemic was intense, this is different.
Leading through chaos like we've never seen before
Early on in the confusion of the pandemic, most people shared the same values. Leaders in our government, leaders of businesses, and the people on the front lines in government and business shared a common challenge - a common enemy if you will.
We all were striving towards the same goal - stopping the pandemic. Sure, there were differing viewpoints, in the early days of the pandemic, but overall we shared a common enemy in the virus.
That's not the case now. We are at an exponentially higher level of chaos.
As such, leaders are called upon in vastly different ways, which requires us to learn and implement new approaches to leadership.
This will be the focus of these blog posts until the chaos surrounding us settles down. We don't know when that will be, but I can assure you that I am here for the long haul.
So stay tuned, check in daily, and we'll get through this together.
